She is Adriana Lima –Brazilian model and actress who has been a Victoria’s Secret Angel since 1999. She is also well known for being the face of Maybelline New York, the cosmetics giant since 2003 and for her commercials with Kia motors at the Super Bowl.

Since the year 2014, Lima has been ranked second on the Forbes list of the highest earning models. In 2012, she became the 4th highest paid model with estimated earnings of $7.3 million made in one year. In 2016, she became second on the list again earning $10.5 million.

Adriana Lima was born on the 12th of June, 1981 to Nelson Torres and Maria das Gracas Lima in Salvador, Brazil. Her mother was a social worker and her father left the family when she was only 6 months old. Hence, it was her mother who raised Lima all by herself.

According to several sources, her middle name was found to be “Francesca” but Lima herself has confirmed in an interview with W Radio Columbia that her name is only Adriana Lima.

What’s interesting about her ethnicity is the fact that she is multi-racial. She has a part Portuguese, Swiss, Japanese, African, West Indian as well as a native Brazilian ancestry. For the same reason, she is well versed in four languages; Portuguese, English, Spanish and Italian.

Lima never intended to be a model in her life. She did win a lot of beauty pageants in elementary school but she never thought of becoming a model. She entered a modelling contest by chance when her friend wanted her. She was too nervous to enter alone so Lima entered with her and the two of them sent in pictures. Soon the sponsor of the contest asked Lima take part and come out for the contest.

Thus, as the age of 15, she entered and ended up receiving first place in Ford’s “Supermodel of Brazil” modelling contest.

Later she also entered the 1996 Ford Supermodel of The World contest and finished second place.

Coming to her love life, Adriana Lima dated Serbian NBA player Marko Jaric and eventually got engaged to him in June 2008. They got married on Valentine’s Day in 2009 in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. In the same year, Lima is reported to have applied for Serbian citizenship but was denied.

After her win at the Ford modelling contest at the age of 15, she moved to New York three years later to chase her dreams. She signed with the famous Elite model management and soon she gained widespread recognition.
